It’s true… we are living in a digital age. But because of that the printed piece has a weight to it and makes an extra special impact. People receive emails, e-cards, tweets, facebook messages, likes, shares, pins, and posts all day, everyday. But, put a beautiful full color business card, postcard, or flyer in their hand and you will stand out!  And what better way to stand out than letting me design something that looks amazing for you!

    Printed Marketing materials

My prices are very affordable, and I always include layout design in all my printing prices. Please give me a call and let me help you stand out from the crowd with full color business cards, double sided postcards, and glossy coated flyers! Maybe products and quantities start under $100.

To really stand out, include some really cool options like Akuafoil, foil printing, satin coating, plastic cards, rounded corners, non-traditional sizes and shapes!

    Adventures in Photography!

Posted By on December 3, 2014

There was a time I made at least half my income from photography. Portraits, commercial photography, weddings, and everything else. I’ve since backed off of most forms of photography and have been focusing on graphic design and copywriting work. But that doesn’t mean I don’t still enjoy photography as an art. My particular favorite is non-traditional photography, such as night photography, Infrared, long exposure, and the coolest; Light Painting.

Light painting is a photographic technique in which exposures are made by moving a hand-held light source while taking a long exposure photograph, either to illuminate a subject or to shine a point of light directly at the camera. Light painting can also describe works where the camera itself is moved during exposure. – Wikipedia

Here is an example of one of my Light Painting shots:

    LightDani

For this shot (of my lovely wife) I had her lying on our bed, in complete darkness, and I used two different hand held lights you paint over here and around her while the camera shutter was open for about 10 seconds.

My second favorite is long exposure night photography.  It’s exactly as it sounds. Shooting at night, I take advantage of the low amount of ambient light to use long shutter speeds and capture some really cool images with deep saturation from small light sources. Here are some examples that I shot in Deep Ellum this past weekend:

So, I’m looking forward to working with some fun images over the next few months… and hopefully organize a gallery show. I had actually reserved a gallery space several years back to do a showing of my art photography, but a job move into the oilfield, and an expanding family left my desire to focus on art photography on the back burner.

So, stay tuned to see what I can come up with.

The Amazing Free way You can Instantly Improve Your Marketing Results Today!

Posted By on July 2, 2014

Marketing trends change, the average consumer is a horribly fickle creature.  BUT, there is one thing that remains constant and effective: The right words! People have been studying word usage and how language can inspire action for years. Simply put,  if you can get the right combination of words you can inspire your audience to do just about anything!

    Words Have Power

This blog was largely inspired by a recent post on the Buffer App blog (one of my favorite blogs and my absolute favorite app to use when managing my social media). You can read Kevan Lee’s post on the Buffer blog here – http://blog.bufferapp.com/words-and-phrases-that-convert-ultimate-list. And here is a section from that post, quoting a study that will give you an idea of where I’m headed with this post:

Perhaps my favorite study is one shared by  Brian Clark of Copyblogger. Social psychologist Ellen Langer tested the power of a single word in an experiment where she asked to cut in line at a copy machine. She tried three different ways of asking:
    • “Excuse me, I have five pages. May I use the Xerox machine?” – 60% said OK
    • “Excuse me, I have five pages. May I use the Xerox machine because I’m in a rush?” – 94% said OK
    • “Excuse me, I have five pages. May I use the Xerox machine because I have to make some copies?” – 93% said OK
I don’t know about you, but I thought Langer’s third request was rather elementary. Yet it didn’t matter. The trigger word “because” was all she needed. The takeaway: When you want people to take action, always give a reason.

You can see the potential of using the right words in the example above. Is this difficult to master? No, but so few marketers are putting this kind of thought into their posts and other materials that with a little work and devoting to finding the right words you can immediately become more successful that those who don’t.

In my opinion, people don’t want to be sold products; rather, they want to buy solutions. So it makes sense that many of the most powerful, influential, and effective words are those that build value (Free, Bargain, Miracle, Remarkable), Show results (Because, Since, Therefore, As a result), and create exclusivity (Join, Members only, Exclusive Offers).

It’s already a well known fact that social media posts that include hash tags perform better than those that do not. What would happen if you carefully chose your hash tags to be power words that create action in your audience?

Here are some of my favorite words that I use to be an effective communicator:

Improved, New, Proven, You, Free, Instantly, Join, Because, Amazing, Offer, Wanted, Hurry, Today only, Limited Offer, No risk, Official, Authentic, Powerful, Best, Tested, Bonus, Guaranteed, Share, First, Now, Secret, Inspires, Help.

A final note on words: Avoid negative words.  Instead of telling someone what not to do, tell then what they should do. Also, avoid over used buzzwords (Strategic, analytical, synergy), people see past marketers who just grab the latest buzzword and throw it in a headline.

Please, subscribe to and share my free newsletter. I send out amazing helpful information and bonus offers every week! It’s Free, no obligation, and you can cancel anytime. Join my exclusive list here – http://eepurl.com/J48ij

Tell me in the comments below what words you like to use and what impact they’ve had on your marketing efforts!  If you would like help with your blog posts, newsletter, marketing content, social media, or any other writing please give me a shout and find out how I can help you!

1 Simple Trick to Always WOW your Customers!

Posted By on June 3, 2014

One thing is for certain: It is much easier to keep your current clients happy than to go out trying to gather new customers. But once you have worked for your client a few times, how do you continue to impress them each time you take on a project. It’s simple! And it’s something that we all know about, every business can do, and you see it in practice all the time. What is this simple trick? Take a look at this example:

You order something from you favorite website (Amazon, Ebay, Woot, whatever), You get you estimated delivery date of 5 days from now. Then 2 days later you walk to your mailbox and there it is, you shiny new gadget, delivered 3 days early! It feels like Christmas, you are overjoyed, you tell everyone how great your experience was, and you feel like a VIP customer.

    Turn your clients into cheerleaders!

    Turn your clients into cheerleaders!

So, what exactly happened here, and how can you use this to inspire your clients to become fanatic cheerleaders for your services? Simply put:

    Under promise and over deliver!

The easiest way to accomplish this is to just deliver early. If you can normally complete a project in 10 days, tell your client to expect it in 14 days. Not only does this make sense because it allows extra time for you to be flexible and efficient with your workflow, but it also allows you to deliver on time or early every time. Another tried and true method to over deliver is the “Bakers’ Dozen”; A little extra goes a long way in making your clients sing your praises. How would you react if the next time you hired a freelancer for a project at completion they came in under budget? Being very conservative with your estimates will allow you the option of charging less or including free extras in your final delivery.

There are many ways you can under promise and over deliver to your customers, and every time you will turn that customer into a repeat client, that will happily tell others about your service, that always exceeds their expectations.

Early delivery, bonus services, extra products, being under budget… which of these have you been able to use, and what over ways can you think of to WOW your customers, every time?!
